Acura TL 2005: The Weekly Driver Review

Acura TL 2005: The Weekly Driver Review
By James Raia

Drivers have more stress during the holidays, alcohol consumption increases and patience in busy traffic can quickly wane.

A 200-mile roundtrip, therefore, is a less-than-ideal way to spent part of Thanksgiving. It's potentially more problematic knowing the crowded, late-night return trip could include a stretch of interstate infamous for its thick, late-night fog.

But visiting family outweighs the inconveniences of potential driving hassles. And if the journey is made in a vehicle with a commanding and secure road presence, such concerns are sufficiently eased.

So it was during my weekly test drive of the 2005 Acura TL. The vehicle was successful for several years, but Acura redesigned it and added more features in 2004 to offer BMW and Audi drivers another choice for a luxury sports sedan that combines performance with value.

There's little change in the TL from last year. The vehicle is based on the Honda Accord platform but has different styling, a different powertrain and more upscale features.

Performance to ride quality to instrumentation, there's a lot to like about the TL, which is why it's a recommended best buy in the premium midsize category by Consumer Guide, among other publications.

The car's performance begins with a 270-horsepower, 3.2-liter, 24-valve V6 engine with a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. My vehicle had an automatic transmission. It shifts smoothly into all positions and was tested at 0-60 mph in 7.0 seconds. The manual transmission was tested at 6.2 seconds.

Among the many standard features are 17-inch wheels and antilock four-wheel disc brakes and an anti-skid system. They all further add to an impressive driving experience. The car handles and steers admirably, and it maneuvers confidentially through traffic with a strong feel on the road, particularly with its 17-inch wheels.

While the vehicle's driving qualities provide plenty to recommend it, the additional exterior and interior standard features only further distinguish the TL.

The leather upholstery is comfortable, attractive and complemented nicely by stylishly contoured aluminum trim. Bright electroluminescent gauges and blue backlighting throughout the cabin provide a sultry night-driving atmosphere.

Individually heated front seats, sunroof, XM satellite radio, in-dash CD changer with an eight-speaker sound system, voice-recognition navigation system, heated power door mirrors and Xenon HID headlights are all standard.

And, of course, cruise control, multiple driver and front passenger seat positions, air conditioning and individual, front-seat climate controls are also standard.

For front-seat passengers there's ample leg room and plenty of overall comfort. Back-seat passengers aren't as comfortable, with head and leg room slightly pinched. Cargo space is also tight, but styled well. The rear seatback doesn't fold, but there's a small pass-through port for skis.

Just like it has been for the past several years, the 2005 Acura TL is a nicely combined sport and luxury car with great attention to refinement and workmanship.

It's a perfect car to drive to a late-night jazz club or at least to fantasize a similar journey. And it's a perfect vehicle for managing holiday traffic in any kind of weather.

Acura RSX 2004: The Weekly Driver Review

Acura RSX 2004: The Weekly Driver Review
By James Raia

As Acura's entry-level vehicle, the RSX is positioned in the sporty coupe class. It's perfectly categorized.

With its stylish, contoured exterior, firm contouring seats, tight-shifting, six-speed manual (Type-S) transmission and compact racing steering wheel, the RSX is an economically priced sports car that's fun to drive and grabs its share of attention on the road.

My test drive for the week couldn't have been more conspicuous. The shiny red hatchback model drew a lot of attention, including a quick conversation with two retirees who olted out a neighborhood barber shop to take a look at the car while I was at the nearby post office.

What kind of car is that? one of seniors asked when I returned and noticed them standing in front of the vehicle. Look at that styling. That's a nice, little sports car.

The RSX, particularly the Type S and its four-cyclinder, 16-valve, 200 horsepower engine, is exactly that.

Like other sports coupes, it has limited rear-seat room and it's noisy, particularly considering it's an Acura.

But with its tight-shifting gears, quick and responsive steering and zippy overall feel, the RSX is nothing but a fun drive, nicely appointed and economical offering by the well-respected manufacturer.

The list of standard technical, safey, interior and exterior features is impressive.

The interior, for example, includes perforated leather seats, automatic climate control, BOSE AM/FM casette and six-CD, in-dash CD changer, power window and door locks.

In addition to its aforementioned engine, standard technical features include four-wheel disc brakes, rack-and-pinion power steering and under normal road conditions and no scheduled tune-ups for 110,00 miles. A power sun and moon roof, 16-inch alloy wheels, power door mirrors and heated outside mirrors are among the exterior features.

One nice additonal design feature is the configuration of the hatchback and its removable security screen. With the screen attached, the sun is blocked and stored items can't be seen. With the screen detached and the rear split seats folded down, the coupe has enough extended back seat space for alpine skis or fence posts.

During my week with the vehicle, I had only one passenger, a good friend I drove into the Sierra Nevad foothills for a running event. He liked the car's styling, its simple, elegant instrumentation and its feel on the road. His only concern was that as a 5-10, 185 pound man, he couldn't fully extend his legs in the front seat.

With its $500 destination and handling fee, the price of my RSX was $23,820. As such, it's often-designated ranking as a consumer's guide Best Buy is difficult to dispute.

2004 Acura RSX

Safety features -- Driver and front seat passenger dual stage front air and side air bags, ABS brakes.

Fuel Mileage (estimates) -- 24 mpg (city), 31 mpg (highway).

Warranty -- Bumper to bumper, 4 years/50,000 miles; Corrosion, 5 years, unlimited mileage; 24-hour, roadside assistance, 4 years/50,000 miles.

Base price -- $23,320.00.

Acura Redefines Premium Crossover

Acura Redefines Premium Crossover
By Stacey Wilson

Acuras new addition to the burgeoning crossover sport utility realm is called 2007 RDX. Said vehicle is a four-door wagon or hatchback which is designed to redefine what a premium crossover utility vehicle (CUV) is.

The most anticipated arrival of the newest addition to Acura lineup is changing the stigma attached to crossovers and transforming the same into something positive an invigorating. 2007 Acura RDX has been developed for 4 years. The fairly unique appearance and performance can be attributed to the so-called premium crossover.

Acura RDX is mainly designed to distinguish what premium crossover is. Basically, the CUV is aimed to distinguish the driving of urban achievers from young double-income couples. Said vehicle exhibits sports-sedan performance wrapped in an all-new power, speed and luxury feel.

The automaker is expecting to expand the production of this vehicle from about 60,000 to approximately 400,000 within a period of 5 years. In addition, Acura wanted to grab about 40,000 sales annually.

2007 RDX is equipped with powered Acura parts such as the 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder engine of 240 horsepower, with a five-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The five-speed automatic transmission has a manual-shift mode that is manipulated by paddles on the steering wheel. The vehicle also has 15 feet 1 inch long space of 101 cubic feet and cargo space of 28 cubic feet behind the rear seat.

2007 RDX uses Acuras SH-AWD, which means super-handling all-wheel drive. It was taken from the system of Acura's flagship RL sedan. The system combines vehicle stability control with computerized allocation of power between the front and rear wheels, and from side to side.

Acura RDX is priced at $33,610. On the other hand, it also offers an optional technology package which is priced at $37,110. Said package includes a rear-view camera, navigation system with voice recognition, and Elliot Scheiners version of 10-speaker premium audio system.

Acura MDX SUV 2004: The Weekly Driver Report

Acura MDX SUV 2004: The Weekly Driver Report
By James Raia

It's hard to imagine all sport utility vehicles (SUVs) are purchased for the same reason. With the 2004 Acura MDX, for example, it's hard to imagine anything but luxury. In fact, isn't its classification as a luxury SUV an oxymoron?

Toting groceries home from the local market seems acceptable, but transporting the neighborhood soccer team or lugging around supplies from the home project store just don't seem appropriate for the Acura offering.

Rather, while often compared with the Cadillac SRX and Lexus RX 300, the MDX offers what Acura owners have come to expect: superior and spacious design, superior handling and a wealth of standard and optional features.

The vehicle is so well constructed and efficiently appointed, one industry car consumer guide describes it as a highly desirable blend of competence and convenience.

I drove the 265-horsepower, 3.5-liter, 24-valve V6 MDX with a 5-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive for my weekly test.

It was immediately apparent physical and visual comfort was a priority for the vehicle's designers. The leather seats are positioned well and provide good leg and head room. Visibility is good, with no blind spots and all console controls are easily accessible.

The controls for the synchronized climate feature, positioned in the center of the top of the dash, required a slight stretch my for reach as a 6-0, 180-driver. But the controls operate smoothly and the temperature rises and decreases quickly.

The two-setting, individually heated seat controls are conveniently positioned to the right and left of the automatic transmission shifting center and also work quickly.

The seven-passenger seating capacity claim is not a stretch, like the same claim is in many other SUVs. The second and third rows can comfortably fit three and two adults, respectively, and both offer split and folding options. All three rows are covered with the head-protecting curtain side airbags. They're designed to deploy in side impacts and during rollovers, and are a new feature for '04.

Power moonroof, AM/FM cassette and six-disc CD changer (with eight speakers), dark wood console trim, rain-sensing windshield wipers and a driver's seat and outside door mirrors memory system are among the other options included in the Touring Package.

In short, the car looks and feels refined.

But it's the navigation system with voice recognition and rearview camera that are most impressive. The camera is discretely positioned under the rear license plate. When the engine is starts, the camera engages and it allows the driver to temporarily see what's immediately behind them on a angle toward the ground.

Driving the MDX is delightful. It's not particularly fast, but the acceleration is there when needed in city and highway scenarios. The vehicle is quiet among SUVs and unlike other SUV offerings, it has a solid feel while cornering and in inclement weather conditions.

If the Acura MDX has one slight downfall (and it's a small one) it's the misleading design of the glovebox. From the outside, the design gives the appearance of a sizable interior. But the interior space is nothing more than a narrow, deep slot not unlike the space of an expandable file folder. It's good for a few maps and maybe a pair of gloves, all turned sideways.

But such minor disappointment is nit-picking. The Acura MDX is a fine choice for consumers seeking the best value in a seven-passenger, all-wheel drive luxury vehicle priced (with all options) at less than $43,000.

2004 Acura MDX SUV

Safety features -- Driver and front passenger front and side airbags, side curtain airbags, ABS brakes, front and rear crumple zones, side-impact door beams, tire pressure monitoring system.

Fuel Mileage (estimates) -- 17 mpg (city), 23 mpg (highway).

Warranty -- Bumper to bumper, 4 years/50,000 miles; corrosion, 5 years/unlimited mileage; roadside assistance, 4 years/50,000 miles.

Base price range -- $36,400-42,700.

The 2006 Acura RSX TypeS Model Breakdown

The 2006 Acura RSX Type-S Model Breakdown
By Dana Stephens

Why was the 2006 Acura RSX Type-S Model so popular for its time? To begin with it contained one of the most sought after i-VTEC 4-cylinder engines to ever be introduced. The i-VTEC system includes a variable timing control (VTC) feature that manipulates valve timing and lift with the use of the innovative VTEC two-stage camshaft. This system regulates oil pressure and endures fluctuating camshaft positioning easily for a wide range of adjustability. The power upgrade from the previous year was so remarkable that it took this vehicle to a whole new level of driving enjoyment. With a standard 2.0-liter, 16-valve engine which outputs 155 horsepower using a 5-speed manual transmission, this vehicle is one of a kind. It is equipped with race-style perforated leather seating to give drivers the ultimate race car feel while also provided superb comfort. The black-on-white main gauges and the three-spoke steering wheel which is leather-wrapped for better grip, gives this model a popular interior look of a race car.

The 2006 Acura RSX Type-S model was designed to make heads turn beginning with some very innovative exterior features like the sporty body style which provides function as well as an impressive appearance. The engineers applied top priority on safety but at the same time, they also needed this vehicle to react well under high speeds. The Acura RSX Type-S maintains good control under high speed conditions while also providing the passenger the ultimate protection during unexpected conditions like slick or wet surfaces. The halogen headlights, spoiler, 16 x 6.5 alloy wheels, and power moonroof combine to enhance the vehicle's image while also providing excellent function. No detail was unnecessary or over the top.

Acura also took great strides in making the 2006 Acura RSX Type-S model the safest option for drivers. The vehicle is standard equipped with front and rear crumple zones which were engineered to keep passengers safe during front and rear impact situations. The side impact door beams and dual-stage front and side airbags provide superior rollover protection. Other safety features like the remote entry system and immobilizer theft-deterrent system were included to give drivers additional safety under unexpected conditions.

The 2006 Acura RSX Type-S also comes with Acura's premium vehicle warranty which provides four years or 50,000 miles of coverage, whichever comes first. Six years or 70,000 miles of coverage for the power train and the i-VTEC engine requires its first major tune-up at 110,000 miles. If you plan on purchasing a new or used Acura RSX Type-S you can be sure that you will have a long-term vehicle with many years of outstanding performance and quality. The service department at your local Acura dealer is staffed with well trained individuals who are ready for any unforeseen problems or minor adjustments be needed. A new or used Acura car should be tuned or accessorized only at a certified Acura facility and should you choose to upgrade any parts, the best place to do so would be at a licensed Acura dealer or service department. These facilities are equipped with the proper equipment and parts for most Acura models on the market.

Acura TSX 2004: The Weekly Driver Review

Acura TSX 2004: The Weekly Driver Review
By James Raia

As a new offering this year, the Acura TSX is defined as a near-luxury vehicle. By some definitions, that means it costs less than $30,000 and does not feature the refined quietness of vehicles described as luxurious.

Yet, however fine the line may be between near-luxurious and luxurious, the TSX does little to further define those boundaries. In fact, the reverse is true. It's a luxury car for less than $30,000, and it offers a lot more than some of its higher-priced automotive cousins.

My test drive for the week was TSX four-door with a six-speed manual transmission. (The five-speed automatic with a manual shift gate is the only other option.)

With an easy-to-use navigation system, 17-inch alloy wheels, Xenon headlights and heated front seats among the car's features, the TSX priced out at $28,900, including the $500 destination charge.

But for under $30,000, the vehicle has superior handling, simple yet classy intrumentation and cabin design and particularly good front seat space. So what's not luxury about the TSX?

In my instance, my weekly test included a 400-mile round-trip adventure from Northern California to the Monterey Peninsula. The journey included myriad driving conditions, high-speed expansive sections of Interstate 5 to the winding, narrow intrastate roads that weave through farmlands and foothills, sometimes on tight, two-lane roads.

But where I first noticed the agile steering and firmly controlled ride of the TSX was maneuvering up and down the hills of Laguna Seca Raceway. Several sections of the road include steep inclines and descents, some with more than 15 percent grades.

While shifting up or down through the gears, the Acura's competitor against the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Infiniti G35 performed with impressive responsiveness on each of the four trips I made to and from the recreation area.

In other driving situations, lane changes, for example, the TSX maneuvered with surprising confidence. Likewise, while in lower-speed, city traffic circumstances, the new Acura's gear shifting is precise and void of any lunging or hesitation.

With only one front-seat passenger during my trip, the average rating for rear seat room the car has received, wasn't test. But for front-seat occupants, the TSX had cozy-but-spacious feeling throughout the journey.

The vehicle's leather seats, the efficient and easy-to-operate navigation system, sharply configured metal audio and cruise controls on the steering wheel and high-intensity headlights all added to the vehicle's fine performance and its comfort appeal.

The six-speed manual transmission TSX has mileage ratings of 22 mph and 29 mph respectively in city and freeway driving. Those seems fair considering the car's 2.4-liter, 16-valve, 200-horsepower engine.

The one concern is that premium fuel is required. And that, of course, will add to the vehicle's operating costs.

2004 Acura TSX

Safety features -- driver's and front passenger's dual stage and side airbags, side curtain airbags, ABS brakes

Fuel Mileage (estimates) -- 22 mpg (city), 29 mpg (highway).

Warranty -- 4 years/50,000 miles (bumper-to-bumper), 5 years/unlimited miles (corrosion), 4 years/50,000 miles (roadside assistance)

Base price range -- $26,490-$28,490.

Tips To Find An Acura Car

Tips To Find An Acura Car
By Christopher Luck

What steps should you take to find the right Acura car for you to buy? I personally dont enjoy shopping for cars, but it is a necessity if you want to avoid riding the bus for the rest of your life. There are steps you can take to find the car you want at the right price and get it done efficiently. If you decide that you think an Acura car of some sort will be best for you then follow these tips and you can be driving off in your Acura car before you know it.

The first thing you probably should figure out is which model of Acura car you want to buy. Acura cars are offered in a wide variety of models from luxury sedans to sports cars, to SUV models. Do some research and look up the various Acura car models and price ranges so that you will know exactly what you are looking for when you start your search.

Second, get online and do some research on the Acura car you have selected. First, check out the consumer sites and reviews that are available all over the internet. Find out what the positives and negatives are. More importantly, perhaps, than that is to find out about what the right price to pay for one is. If you are considering a used Acura car find out what mileages and years fit your budget the best. If you think you are going to want to buy a new Acura car, then find out what the suggested price is versus the prices most people end up getting after they talk the dealer down a little bit. If you have a trade in you are going to use toward your Acura car, you may want to go ahead and check the value of that as well so you can make sure you get fair compensation.

Once you have checked out and researched online, you need to start heading out to the dealerships. You may want to find out, first, what Acura cars they have by checking the individual dealer websites. Often they have their inventory on there and some starting prices so you will know what you are looking for when you arrive. Many people are intimidated by sales people, but this education and arming of yourself with knowledge should alleviate some of your concerns since you will know what you should pay and what you should get for a trade it.

Buying a car can be stressful, but it has to be done. If you want to buy an Acura car at the best price you can afford, then do your homework. Log on and do some research, check dealer websites, and check out consumer reviews of the car and its pricing. By arming yourself with knowledge you can work with confidence and efficiency in getting into your Acura car sooner than you might think.

Acura RSX: Swan Song

Acura RSX: Swan Song
By Matthew Keegan

When Honda launched the Acura brand in 1986, two models powered the fleet: the Integra and the Legend. Since then many other models have been added to the Acura line up and the Integra was eventually renamed the RSX and the Legend was later given the RL designation. After two decades of service, the Integra/RSX is in its final year of production. Please read on for reasons why the Honda Motor Company will kill off this once popular seller.

Blowing Up Bridges - When Honda created Acura, the company wanted one bridge model to be included in the mix to help Honda owners transition to Acura. The thought back then was that the price differential between the two brands would be too much for many one-time Honda owners to swallow. Thus, the Integra was created and priced only slightly higher than the most expensive Honda model, but well below the prevailing price of the Legend. With this pricing plan in place, Honda believed accurately that Integra/RSX owners would eventually opt for a more upscale Acura. Today, however, Honda is now actively separating the two brands with individual research and development departments in play. Furthermore, Acura is being repositioned to better compete against Infiniti and Lexus, two Japanese luxury brands without a bridge model.

Invest Elsewhere - Related to the first point, the RSX was due for a change. The current model is old and the monies to bring about a new model would take away from the companys bottom line. Acura has mentioned that a coupe version of its popular TL sedan is likely to be introduced to satisfy whatever consumer demand remains for a luxury coupe.

Changing Consumer Tastes - While a sports coupe has its advantages, the market for this type of car is limited and dwindling. Chevrolet gave up the Camaro, Pontiac the Firebird, while the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Ford Mustang manage to hold their own. None of these cars are on the luxury level of the Acura and consumer interest has been steadily dwindling over the past five years.

A New NSX? - Acuras discontinued NSX, a two seat sports car, is rumored to be coming back. Although sales will likely be limited to less than 10,000 models annually the high priced NSX would be the halo model for the Acura fleet. USA Acura dealers want the car and it appears that the Honda Motor Company many oblige.

In its heyday the Integra was a popular seller and a frequently stolen car. Hard to find parts made the Integra a popular target of thieves; expect this problem to worsen as the RSX goes completely out of production. So, if you dont have an alarm system installed on your Integra/RSX yet, do so today. The Integra/RSX you currently drive may be the last one you own; dont let thieves make that determination for you!

The Acura RSX is an award winning coupe certain to bring you years of dependable and enjoyable driving. Keep it running great by choosing only OEM quality parts when maintaining your vehicle.

Consumer Reports Picks Acura Lexus Over European American Luxury Brands

Consumer Reports Picks Acura - Lexus Over European American Luxury Brands
By Glady Reign

The American magazine Consumer Reports recently reported that the Acura MDX and the Lexus RX350 were given more points compared to Cadillac, BMW, or Lincoln SUVs. The report came after tests have been conducted on the SUVs which will be part of the Consumer Reports July issue.

The tests conducted by Consumer Reports include 18 midsize SUVs according to the publication. Of these 18 vehicles, the Lexus RX350 ranked third while the Acura MDX ranked fourth.

Ranking first is the Toyota Highlander Hybrid while the Lexus RX400h ranked second. The RX400h and the Lexus RX350 shares a common platform. The only difference between them is the powertrain since the hybrid RX400h uses an electric motor so as to provide additional power to its engine.

Of the eighteen midsized SUVs tested by Consumer Reports, five of them are luxury SUVs. Aside from the RX350 and the MDX, the three other luxury SUVs tested by Consumer Reports are the Cadillac SRX, the BMW X5 and the Lincoln MKX. The SRX, X5 and the MKX all received an overall Very Good rating but failed to outrank the RX350 and the MDX. The SRX finished somewhere in the middle of the list while the X5 and the MKX were at the bottom of the list.

The RX350 and the MDX both finished with 80 points each but due to other characteristic differences like the handling ability and fuel economy, the Lexus SUV was ranked higher than the Acura. The RX carries five passengers and is known for its luxurious interior. Its engine is the most fuel efficient of the five luxury SUVs even without the help of aftermarket parts like the Exedy clutch or the Exedy flywheel. The RX also has the quickest acceleration among the tested luxury SUVs.

The RXs new engine is a 3.5-liter V6 engine which is capable of producing 270 horsepower. The fuel efficiency of the said engine resulted to a gas mileage rating of 19 mpg as according to Consumer Reports after the RX underwent their own fuel economy tests.

The MDX on the other hand can seat up to seven passengers - two more than the RXs capacity. It also has a luxurious interior. Another characteristic which puts the MDX near the top spot is its better handling as compared to the RX and the other luxury SUVs. Its engine is also reported to be sportier than that of the Lexus. Its suspension setting complements the powertrain giving the MDX good riding comfort.

The SRX, while able to attain a Very Good overall rating, is not being recommended by Consumer Reports due to the questionable reliability of past models of the SRX. The X5 and the MKX, on the other hand, are relatively new to the market so Consumer Reports have limited data so as to their reliability. The publication only recommends vehicles which have performed well on their tests and those which have been proven to be reliable. Reliability is based on the companys Annual Car Reliability Survey of CRs subscribers. The recommended vehicles should also receive good safety ratings.

Acura TL: Unbelievable Value for the Money

Acura TL: Unbelievable Value for the Money
By Jennifer Dylan

A carryover from the previous year, 2005, the 2006 Acura TL is a luxury sedan or luxury sports sedan. It has been made available in six trims that ranges from the 5-Spd AT to the 6-Spd MT with Performance Tires and Navigation System. It has four doors and has a maximum passenger capacity of five people. All trims hold a 3.2 liter V6 engine that can transform its power to 258 horsepower engine that can take up to 20 mpg for city driving and a remarkable 29 mpg for highway driving. This vehicle is a midsize entry-level luxury car from Acura which is Hondas near-luxury brand.

The Acura TL was first introduced to the market in 1996 to replace and take over the niche that would be left behind by the Acura Vigor. Technically, the 2006 Acura TL also was meant to replace the Acura Legend coupe. The Acura TL was a large car that was very much capable of handling a soft ride. This was very much in contrast to the Acura Legends that were crafted as sports sedans with taut proportions. The first Acura TL made its way to the streets bearing a 2.5 liter SOHC 20 valve engine with five cylinders. The second generation of the Acura TL was crafted alongside the Honda Accord. These were later imported to Japan and were sold as the Honda Inspire and the Honda Saber in each dealer network.

Come 2005, the Acura TL bagged in the Passenger Airbag Cutoff indicator and some extra stitching on its front seats. Changes were also done to its seat belt anchor mount along with several minor changes. This car is quite competitive that it was seem by car critics as Unbelievable Value for the Money. Come this year, 2006, the Acura TL received the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (or TPMS) and a new computer logic. In North America, the 2006 Acura TL is still the best selling luxury sedan having the G35 sedan as its main competitor. Other competitors include the BMW 3 series, the BMW 5 series, the Cadillac CTS, the Cadillac STS, the Lexus ES, the Lexus GS, and the Lexus IS.

As per the Acura TLs interior, this vehicle has LED backlit analog instruments that have been specially placed and mounted so as to allow the driver instant and easy access to information. Luxury has also been enhanced with the use of upgraded interior materials. The vehicle also sports a more spacious and stylish interior along with its standard perforated leather-trimmed seating.

What have already been scheduled for the Acura TL come year 2007 are some minor model changes. Also, for 2009, the Acura TL will have to undergo a major redesigning. Rumors have it that the vehicle will be most likely to receive new clear taillights, a redesigned front bumper and headlight, and additional horsepower with revised intake and exhaust system.

2006 Acura MDX: Luxury With A View

2006 Acura MDX: Luxury With A View
By Matthew Keegan

You have to love the marketing guys. After all of the work of the design team, a new vehicle must pass through several rigorous channels including engineering, safety, performance, quality, durability, craftsmanship, government inspections, and management clearance, before even the first rivet is drilled or body panel painted. After all is said and done, the marketers get their chance to pitch the final product. In one word the MDX has been defined by these very same marketers: benchmark. Does the MDX live up to this all important designation? Acura would like for you to think so. Lets take a look at Acuras 7 passenger luxury SUV to see if it truly does rise to the level of category leader.

The marketplace is flooded with SUVs. Despite high gas prices, the demand for high profile vehicles continues to remain strong, particularly in the sub-behemoth category which is anything smaller than an Expedition or a Tahoe. Still, some of these less imposing models are fuel eaters too, equipped with V8 engines and all the latest gadgetry. If you want to realize fuel savings in an SUV a compact Ford Escape Hybrid is just about your only choice, plus a new Lexus model just now hitting showrooms.

I digress.

The Acura MDX, along with its less opulent sister the Honda Pilot, embodies a class of vehicles that offer four wheel drive capabilities for optimum on road duty as well as medium off road duty. If you want a trail rated luxury SUV, then the Jeep Gran Cherokee is more your style. The MDX just cannot go where the Jeep can go.

All comparisons aside, the Acura is definitely luxury with a high profile view. The standard equipment list is extensive and includes the following:

  • 3.5-liter, 24-valve, SOHC V-6 engine

  • 5-speed automatic transmission

  • Rack-and-pinion steering system and an all-independent front and rear suspension

  • 4-channel Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)

  • 7-speaker sound system with AM/FM stereo, in-dash CD player, and XM Satellite Radio

  • Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition; OnStar

  • Tilt steering, cruise control, a power sliding-glass moon roof

  • Electrically heated leather seating for front passengers

  • Power everything; windows, mirrors, door locks, etc.

Environmentally conscious SUV owners will enjoy the MDX for its recent Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle (ULEV-2) designation, a first for any SUV. What this means is that the MDXs emissions ratings are extremely low, far below that of acceptable government levels.

The base MDX retails at a highly competitive $37,125 with fully loaded versions topping out just about forty five thousand dollars. Prices compare favorably with the Jeep Gran Cherokee, but the MDX undercuts BMW and Mercedes models by several thousands of dollars.

Acura recommends that owners use premium [91 octane gasoline in their MDX. Delivering 17 miles city and 23 miles highway, the MDXs fuel economy is about average for a vehicle of its size.

While the marketers want you to think that the MDX is the benchmark by which all other SUVs must be measured against, it fails to deliver in the all important off road category. Still, Acura price, luxury, and quality is certain to be a draw for buyers interested in a vehicle that is just about as opulent as any production SUV.

  • Acura Excitement!

    Acura Excitement!
    By Matthew Keegan

Ever since Honda launched their sport/luxury division in 1986, the offerings from the Japanese automaker have improved immensely. Gone are the days that most Acuras looked and drove like their Honda cousins. Instead, advancements in refinement, sport tuning, and luxury has made the Acura a classy car in its own right.

In the late 1980s, Acura fielded several noteworthy models the Legend, Integra, and the Vigor that quickly received recognition from the automotive press as being industry leaders. Indeed, Motor Trend gave the Legend coupe the Import Car of the Year award designation in 1987 while during that same year Car & Driver recognized the Integra as one of the 10 best cars on the road. Not bad, especially since Acura was new and Honda was raising the bar on all of its models.

Today, Acura remains a leader. Old model names have been retired while new names are now being marketed including:

  • RL a 5 passenger midsize luxury sedan
  • TL - a 5 passenger midsize sport luxury sedan
  • TSX - a 5 passenger midsize near-luxury sedan
  • RSX - a 4 passenger sporty coupe
  • NSX - a 2 passenger sports car
  • MDX - a 7 passenger luxury SUV
  • Truly, the models have changed since the early years of Acura, but the latest offerings help keep Acura at the front of the pack. Indeed, the Acura label is a strong competitor to two other Japanese luxury lines: Lexus and Infiniti.

The Acura make has spawned a considerable following with enthusiasts who are happily maintaining their 20 year old Vigors with quality Acura parts. Integra parts are available through select dealers who can help you keep your classic running whether you are seeking to make modifications or repairs such as replacing your Acura radiator.

Honda certainly has hit a home run with the introduction of the Acura line up of sport and luxury models. If you own a classic Acura you know that the value of your car has remained strong. If you are considering purchasing a new Acura your car will compete favorably with any line up in the world.

What You Need To Know About The Acura TL

What You Need To Know About The Acura TL
    By Christopher Luck

What will you see that is different with the new Acura TL than in previous versions? Having taken a few test drives with the new version of the Acura TL, there are definite differences. You see, it has been redesigned over the last couple of years so that Audi and BMW drivers another luxury car option. This is yet another luxury sports car that is a combination of performance and value.

The Acura TL has changed a slight amount from 2004 when all of the big changes were made. It is still based on the Honda Accord, but there are some changes in the styling of the car and the powertrain. There are also some additional upscale features to the 2005 version of the Acura TL.

Performance wise, the 2005 Acura TL starts off with a 270-horsepower, 3.2 liter, 24-valve V6 engine. You can get your choice of a five-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual.

Standard with the 2005 Acura TL are 17-inch wheels that are equipped with antilock four-wheel disc brakes as well as a system for anti-skid. These standard features add to the great handling that is associated with this version of the Acura TL. It steers well and maneuvers easily in traffic. Most say it has a strong feel in traffic and that the wheels, at 17 inches, only add to that feel.

Standard on the interior of the Acura TL is leather upholstery. It is a comfortable and attractive leather that looks nice with the aluminum trim on the interior as well. The gauges are electroluminescent with blue backlighting that makes them both stylish and easy to read at night. In addition, heated seats in the front, XM satellite radio, voice-recognition navigation, and heated power door mirrors are just a few of the many standard luxury features available on this sports sedan. Then there is the cruise control, air conditioning, and individual front seat climate control, which are also all standard.

Comfort wise, the Acura TL fits the bill as well. There is a lot of leg room in the front seat. The car is made for style and front seat comfort, but you may find the back seat a little bit cramped at times. There is also limited space for storage. It is, however, a fantastic car for taking a date out on the town or showing up at a party in. It manages traffic and weather with equal ease and grace, so it if a fine work car as well.

You have seen the Acura TL sitting on the lot and wondered what all the hype was about. You wondered if the 2005 model was an improvement and if the car was a model you would enjoy for your lifestyle. It certainly isnt for everyone, but if you like a sports sedan with luxury and style to make a statement on your behalf, then you might want to consider taking a look at the 2005 Acura TL. It is practical for handling traffic and bad weather as well as looking stylish for your night out on the town. Either way, you owe yourself a look, go on, you know you want to.

What You Should Know About The Acura RSX

What You Should Know About The Acura RSX
    By Christopher Luck

What should you consider about the Acura RSX before you buy one? Any time I buy any new car I always make sure I have done my homework on it first. So if you think the Acura RSX may be the car for you, you should probably do what I do and make sure you know as much about the car as you can find out before you hit the lots. Here is a little bit about what I found regarding the Acura RSX, but do your own research as well so that you know everything about the car the it important to you before you go out and make that purchase. Your best bet, though, is to check out the S type of the Acura RSX.

The Acura RSX is a high performance coupe in the S type. It features a 210 hp 2-liter engine, 6-speed close-ratio manual transmission, modified suspension and brakes, quick-ratio variable rack & pinion steering, upgraded tires, leather interior. Air conditioning and 7-speaker Bose sound system come standard when you buy it new.

Visual inspection of the car reveals that it is best-suited to smaller people. Up front, however, is what counts and there you will probably find the most comfort. The seats of the Acura RSX S Type are fantastic, not racer-tight but with more than suitable grip. The steering wheel is well placed, small, and wrapped with leather. The gear lever falls right to hand and has obviously been placed with care. Also, everything looks great, with typical Acura ergonomics. One drawback would be that the numbers on many of the instruments in the Acura RSX are too small and the indicators on the air controls are not very easy to read. The round air and heat vents are controlled with little clamshell-shaped doors that allow them to almost vanish when closed. Seats and mirrors are heated, while the set-and-forget climate control maintains a very nice temperature.

The Acura RSX is casual elegant, but with just a little faux titanium and chrome to dress things up. The sunroof is standard and cIn addition, as you look over more information on the Acura RSX, you will find that there is even more to it. It is a safe car with many standard air bag and brake features that add to the practical appeal. As you look into cars, and if you believe that such a sedan at a these prices may be for you, then you owe it to yourself to give the Acura RSX a chance. Do your research and visit an Acura dealer to take a test drive and see that everything you have read about this sports sedan is true and may just be why the Acura RSX is the right car for you to consider for your next new car purchase.

2006 Acura CL: Traditional Yet Modern

2006 Acura CL: Traditional Yet Modern
    By Shane Carter

Acura, as a brand, has been holding up its share in its commitment of crafting, introducing, and bringing to the market vehicles that are engineered so as to provide excellent performance. And once again, Acura has added another vehicle to this list and at the same reinforcing the brand's commitment. Welcome the all-new 2006 Acura CL.

The 2006 Acura CL has been redesigned and reengineered in almost every little detail possible. This new vehicle promises to deliver higher levels of performance, technological innovations, engineering achievements, passenger safety, and overall style. It has also been destined to compete with the existing BMW 328Ci, the Volvo C70, and the Mercedes Benz CLK320. This vehicle has been again designed so as to provide and exude the smooth and flowing lines of the classic coupes of the European Gran Turismo. However, this does not overbear the styling that is only from an Acura. Making the 2006 Acura CL a remarkable vehicle is that it has been able to combine the past, tradition, and heritage with modernity and technology. This vehicle surely possesses encompassing efficiency with its powerful engines, as well as revolutionary safety features and high technology vehicle management systems that are controls by computers.

There are two engine options for the 2006 Acura CL. It is either the Acura 3.2 liter VTEC V6 engine with 24 valves, or the 3.2 power plant that has the capacity to create 225 horsepower. As per interior volume, this all-new vehicle sports 96.5 cubic feet of this, which is a 4.6 cubic feet increase from the previous vehicle. It also sports some 192.0 inches of length and 70.6 inches in its width. Safety features have been packed in this vehicle. The list includes standard front airbags, advanced side airbags with front passenger height and position sensors, and the standard anti-lock brakes as well as the Traction Control System.

Offered as an option for the 2006 Acura CL is the Acura Navigation System. This system provides a satellite-linked nationwide coverage done through the use of a DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) database located on board. The vehicle also sports modifications like CompTech cold air intake, certified exhaust headers, CompTech high-flow exhaust system, Brembo brakes, sport suspension with Titanium front upper strut bar, 19-inch Maya DTM wheels, front and rear bumpers with side moldings, a deck lid tail spoiler, and custom aluminum exhaust tips.

The 2006 Acura CL is one coupe that is really worth looking into. Although this vehicle has its share of downs like a confusing navigation system controls, and cramped head room as well as entry and exit for the rear seats, the 2006 Acura CL still shines amidst these with its quick acceleration, smooth steering as well as handling, and a perfect build quality.
